
Scottish Credit & Qualifications Framework Level 5 ITC Certificate in Outdoor First Aid
The outdoor or remote environment nearly always means that the casualty has to be cared for longer than is typical in a more urban setting. All of our Outdoor First Aid courses consider how to manage the situation when the rescue services do not arrive quickly.This course is appropriate if your work or leisure place is remote or rural. The qualification will keep NGB Outdoor awards valid.
SQA (Scottish Qualification Authority) Recognition
This course is part of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) regulated by SQA (official regulator of qualifications in Scotland).
Qualification Structure
The qualification is built from 2 mandatory unit of assessment. The units of assessment are normally taught in an integrated manner so that attendance over both days is required.
Passing both units leads to the ITC Certificate in Outdoor First Aid (SCQF code R084 04)

2 - day (8 x 2-hour sessions)

Safe best practice
Continual comparison of urban and outdoor considerations
A systematic approach to incident management in the outdoors
Unconsciousness, causes and treatment
External bleeding, internal bleeding and shock
Resuscitation procedures including cpr andchoking
Awareness of current sector regulations
Injury management outdoors
Illness recognition and management
Managing thermal (heat, cold) problems
Incident management scenarios

Interactive 'hands on' practical training (in and out doors)
Typically 70%/30% practical/theory session ratio
One CPR training manikin per 2 participants
Use of recommended first aid kit
Free individual course manual
Includes an accredited certificate, valid for 3 years

Revalidation
This certificate is revalidated by successful completion of another 16-hour ITC Outdoor First Aid course. The course is Skills Active approved and carries 8 REPs cpd points
